My My. Are we that gullible?

IPOH: A bank customer service officer’s kindness cost her RM61,200 in her mother’s savings to a man she befriended on Facebook.
The 24-year-old woman, who declined to be named, said she befriended one Salinder Singh @ Inderjeet Singh Aujla on Facebook last December.
“Earlier this year, he told me that he needed money for a range of problems, including his mother’s medication. He sounded convincing so I decided to help him out,” she said during a press conference organised by Perak Barisan Nasional Public Service and Complaints Centre here yesterday.
The woman said she transferred RM47,000 on March 15 and RM14,200 two days later into three separate bank accounts via online banking.
“The bank accounts were under the name of individuals that I did not know. After receiving the money, Salinder could not be contacted any more,” she said.
Her mother, added the woman, was heartbroken to learn that she had lost her savings.
“She now needs the money for her medical expenses. I really do not know what to do,” said the woman.
She warned that the man might be looking for new victims as she could still read his postings on the social networking site.
