The British Immigration and Higher Education Departments were puzzled when there were discrepancies in their records of Malaysian of Chinese origins studying Medicine. Engineering, Architecture and Law.
In the record provided by the Higher Education Department, only 5 % are studying law, while the record provided by the Immigration Department shows that close to 90% said they wanted to study law when asked at the entrance.
Both department officials were puzzled by the high discrepancy and despatched their top officials to meet with Malaysian counterparts.
"We are puzzled to why only 5% of your citizen of Chinese origin study law, when at entrance almost 90% said they wanted to study law. Hope Mr Chong can help enlighten us."
Mr Chong smile, sit up straight and said...
"You see, when you ask any chinese the purpose of their coming to your country, most of us will respond this way, visiting lor. For students, they will reply STUDY LOR.. Lor as in LOR and not LAW."
